Consistent with the highest ethical standards and the traditional goals of amateur sports, the mission of Potomac Soccer Association is to sponsor at least one premier select travel team for males and females in each age group from Under 10 through Under 23.
A premier team is a team that wins three-quarters of all its games against Division One teams from any region of the United States. Premier teams consistently advance to the semi-finals of their state association's Cup and place a minimum of eight players in their state association's Olympic Development Program. All players on premier teams (with the exception of those that are home schooled or have dropped out to work) make their high school varsity teams by their sophomore year and start by their junior year. By the end of their senior year , all players on premier teams have the ability to play Division III college soccer, at least half have the ability to play Division I college soccer and at least four are offered three-quarter plus tuition scholarships to play Division I college soccer.
The traditional goals of amateur sports include but are not limited to the development of sportsmanship, teammanship, friendship, loyalty, lifetime fitness habits and positive outlets for youth and young adult players. Leaders of amateur sports teams encourage youngsters to take their studies seriously and avoid the dangers of alcohol and drugs.
The highest ethical standards require that the team's leaders and members follow all the rules and regulations of the team's league, state association and the United States Youth Soccer Association. Players and parents are informed about all the costs and benefits associated with select travel soccer on a premier team before they accept an offer to play for the team. Players and parents are informed of their rights and responsibilities as members of a select team. Recruitment of new players occurs as a result of publicly announced tryouts and not as a result of team leaders actively pursuing players who have not contacted the team's leaders first. Finally, the highest ethical standards require that players are selected based on their ability and without regard to their race, ethnicity, religion or socio-economic status.
