A product of Chapel Hill, N.C., Bob grew up playing select soccer with the likes of Anson Dorrance. After being selected for the North Carolina Bi-Centennial International Tournament Team, the 1st Team North Carolina All-State Team , for 2 years, and was nominated for the All-South Team two years running, Bob traveled to Poland to tour with his select team to get some international soccer experience. Upon his return, the speedy mid-fielder decided to settle in at Duke University where he played for renowned John Rennie and was a part of one of their many ACC championship teams. Bob believes that success is achieved through a creative process of teaching rigorous basic skills and combining that with fun and progressive tactical development. More importantly, Bob focuses on teaching a love for the game and has coached youth soccer for over 10 years with CYO, MSI and Potomac Soccer and holds a MSYSA “E” license.
Coach Andy Battin
Andy grew up playing soccer in the Philadelphia area in the 1970’s. As a U-17 player, Andy participated in the Helsinki Cup in Finland as a member of one of the two U.S. teams. Andy played midfield while at
LaSalle College High School in Philadelphia’s tough Catholic League, and went on to play fullback at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. Andy believes that a commitment to individual skill development, self-control, conditioning, and teamwork, translate into positive results for the team come game time. Andy has coached boys and girls youth soccer for over 6 years with Seneca, SAM, MSI, Potomac’s NCSL team, and holds a NSCAA Regional Diploma.
Prior to joining forces, Bob and Andy’s respective teams (Hammerheads and Hurricanes) shared a healthy rivalry, and frequently exchanged players for tournaments collecting division titles and tournament
trophies along the way. In their inaugural season coaching the Rapids, Coach Bob and Coach Andy captured the NCSL U-12 Division 6 title.
