Rodney Wallace

Chris Jennings, with DC United, recently conducted a phone interview with Rodney from Training Camp about playing with Potomac Soccer Club

Chris:  At what age did you start playing with Potomac and what did you like about it that made you stick with them?

Rodney: I started playing for Potomac when I was 10 years old, it was the most competitive team around and I made a lot of friends there.

Chris:  What experience did you gain through Potomac that has helped you up to this point?
Rodney: I traveled a lot with Potomac, it helps me be more independent now. I gained more of a competitive edge.

Chris: While playing with Potomac, did you do any extra skill/fitness/strength training/etc by yourself outside of practice and games? If so, what did you do?
Rodney: Yes, was involved in other sports such as basketball, football, and lacrosse in school. They helped me gain other skills that became useful in soccer.

Chris: What were some of your favorite memories from playing at Potomac? (Certain games, practices, trips, etc.)
Rodney: I enjoyed carpooling to games and tournaments, it was a great time to clear our heads and have fun. Winning state cup and going to regionals still sticks out in my mind as well.

Chris:  How is it playing against other players in the league that you played youth ball with/against?
Rodney: It's an amazing feeling to see people I played with or against in club ball. Its always good to see that we all have made it this far.

Chris:  If you had to give advice to youth players out there who aspire to be a professional like you, what would you tell them?
Rodney: Have fun, compete, and stick to it.

Chris: What do you expect your role to be with D.C United this year and what kind of an impact do you hope to make?
Rodney: This year is going to be different than last, I expect to adjust to a new role on the field but still remain consistent with my game. As a team we want to win as many games, make it to the playoffs and win the cup

Chris: Who was your role model growing up?
Rodney: My father helped me out, and still does. He is a great role model to follow all around on and off the field.

Chris: Is the MLS level something you want to stay at, or are you planning to try and make it to the International level in professional soccer?
Rodney: I want to elevate my game everyday, I always want to get better. Right now things are good in Dc and I do want to make it to the international level one day.

Chris: What are the expectations for the team this year?
Rodney: To win the MLS CUP
